Greek Champions Vasiliki ARVANITI and Panagiota KARAGKOUNI won the bronze medal in the Women’s Beach Volleyball tournament, offering Greece its thirty-third medal in the II Mediterranean Beach Games.
In front of 1,500 sports fans that had filled the stands of the “Artemis” C5 court, the top Greek teams fought hard for the bronze medal.
In a rematch of this year’s Greek Championship Final, defending Champions ARVANITI and KARAGKOUNI beat runners-up Konstantina TSOPOULOU and Dimitra MANAVi to step on the podium.
The match was close only in the first set. ARVANITI and KARAGKOUNI were 13-9 ahead, but TSOPOULOU and MANAVI used a 6-0 run to go ahead, 15-13, and kept the lead up to 20-19.
Then good blocks from ARVANITI and KARAGKOUNI brought about a 3-0 run for Greece I, which went 22-20 in front and finally won the set.
In the second set TSOPOULOU and MANAVI looked disappointed and fell 9-1 behind, eventually finishing in fourth place.
