Canoe Ocean Racing: Nicolas LAMBERT riding the waves

Starting from Wednesday, 28 of August, a total of 26 athletes (13 men and 13 women) from 6 different countries will be competing in the Canoe Ocean Racing event, one of the most challenging and exciting sports on the program.

Canoe Ocean Racing combines speed, tactics, skill and stamina and will definitely impress spectators. Every athlete, not only battles against his/her opponents, but also against the wind, the waves and the weather conditions…

Amongst the athletes expected to stand out is Frenchman Nicolas LAMBERT, silver medalist at the 2017 ICF Ocean Racing World Cup, also finishing fourth at the first Mediterranean Beach Gamest in Pescara four years ago.

In recent years LAMBERT has been a permanent member of the French National Team having won 10 gold medals, 11 silver and 3 bronze.

One of the biggest names competing in “Patras 2019” is Bouzan WALTER from Spain, who in recent years has achieved great success. He has been continuously been winning the Canoe Marathon European Championship from 2010 to 2017 with his compatriot FERNANDEZ.

In the women’s event the show is stolen by Frenchwoman Angie LE ROUX, who won the European Ocean Racing Championship in 2018 in Spain and will certainly be one of the hot favorites in Patras.

Spain’s Amaia OSBA OLABERRI, winner of the bronze medal at the 2018 Ocean Racing European Championships is also expected to shine in the Games.

The Greek team has the oldest aged athlete, 51-year-old Panteleimon MARKOU who has huge experience and many appearances in international competitions.

On the other hand, 16-year-old Sofia PAVLI from Methana, who will be making her international debut and 17-year-old Thanassis TZANAKOPOULOS from Chania are also in the Greek team.
