Two important meetings took place on Thursday, February 7th, at the headquarters of the Organizing Committee of the 2nd Mediterranean Beach Games (Pepanos Swimming Pool), about the beginning of the final preparation phase.
The first meeting, which was chaired by the President of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Fotis Sarantopoulos, was attended by the General Secretary of the ICMG, Mr. Iakovos Filippousis, the General Secretary of the NOC Mr. Manolis Kolybadis, the member of the Coordination Committee of ICMG for the particular event Mrs. Katerina Mouratidou, the members of the Executive Committee of the Organizing Committee of the 2nd Mediterranean Beach Games Mr. Platon Marlafekas and Ilias Grigoris, as well as the members of the project team.
There was an update about the preparation so far, the immediate next steps were prioritized with a specific timetable, the first priorities per sector were defined and finally the absolute need for teamwork was analyzed with full availability of all, for the successful organization of the Competition.
The meeting was totally profitable and the mood and optimism of everyone was certified to win the bet not only for Patras but also for the entire Greek sports family, so that the 2nd Mediterranean Beach Games will be a legacy and heritage with multiple sporting, social and cultural benefits.
The second meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Sports, Mr. George Vassiliadis, with the participation of the Secretary General of the ICMG Mr. Iakovos Filippousis, the General Secretary of the NOC Mr. Manolis Kolybadis, the member of the Coordinating Committee of ICMG for the specific event Mrs Katerina Mouratidou, the members of the Executive Committee of the Organizing Committee of the 2nd Mediterranean Beach Games Mr. Fotis Sarantopoulos, Platon Marlafekas and Elias Grigoris as well as the representatives of the Mayor of Patras, Mr. Takis Petropoulos and the Regional Governor of Western Greece, Mr. Costas Karpetas.
The Deputy Minister informed about the legislative interventions that were made to finance the event and announced that the Organizing Committee will receive directly 2.7million euros.
He also announced initiatives for claiming and hosting other major international events after the Mediterranean Beach Games and praised the excellent cooperation with all the involved organizations and Institutions in the region.
Mr. Vassiliadis expressed his absolute belief and optimism that the event will be in a high level, which, beyond the benefits that the wider region will gain as heritage, it will also re-invite Greece in a dynamic way, to take on major sports events.
After the end of the meetings, a press conference was given to the local media by Deputy Minister of Sports, Mr. Vassiliadis, the President of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Fotis Sarantopoulos and the Secretary of the National Olympic Committee, Mr. Manolis Kolybadis.
Media representatives were briefed on the meetings and in general the preparation of the event and questions were answered.
Today's full day of activities is recorded as the beginning of the ultimate effort of all the persons involved, so as not to waste any more minute and to work with high professionalism and dedication, cooperation and teamwork to justify the trust of ICMG that awarded the city with this event, and ALONG SIDE with the citizens of Patras, to organize an event of the highest level.
