The Aquathlon events turned out to be a Spanish affair, with Kevin Tarek VINUELA GONZALEZ and Sara GUERRERO MANSO dominating and winning two medals for their home country.

Both in the men’s and women’s events, there were two Iberian Peninsula “derbies”, with Spain winning the medals in both encounters.

Pedro Nuno ARAÚJO MENDES (POR) was a bit quicker in the first leg of the race, but VINUELA GONZALEZ (ESP) overtook him in the swimming leg, coming out of the sea with a difference of one and a half seconds.

The 24-year-old winner was considered the favorite, having won the silver medal at the World Championship in Pontevedra, Spain more than four months ago.

The SYRIAN Mohamad MASOO finished third in today's race and celebrated great success wildly.

In the women's category, Sara GUERRERO MANSO (ESP) took the lead from the start and kept it to the end.

Ana Luísa VIEIRA RAMOS (POR) followed, while Stavroula PERIKLEOUS from Cyprus put on an outstanding performance and could have won the silver medal had she swum faster.

Greek Deniz-Maria DIMAKI finished fourth in the race.
